Today at Statewide Stone Care we'd like to talk about our lobby polishing in NYC.
The lobby area is the first area that your visitors step on when they visit your business or home. Therefore, the impression they get from the lobby creates the overall perception of the whole building. It makes sense to have the lobby area well-polished and styled.
Lobby Polishing NYC |
Most people usually have a great-looking lobby when the lobby is new. However, due to the large foot traffic on the lobby as well heavy items being dragged on the surface, the floor becomes scratched and loses the shiny appeal. Such floors require regular polishing and restoration for a great looking lobby.
The choice of the coating depends on the type of floor that is installed in your lobby. Most lobbies are made of either the natural stone or concrete. A few are made of wood. (most people avoid the use of wood due to high cost of maintenance).
Polishing the lobby floors
The floor contractor first inspects your concrete floor for damage from scratching, uneven surfaces and small holes that may have formed on the surface of the floor. These imperfections should be repaired before any polishing can take place.
Use of polished concrete
Polished concrete is slowly gaining popularity, especially in the commercial lobbies. It involves a process where a penetrating densifier sealer is applied to the surface of the concrete floor. The sealer reacts with the concrete floor resulting in a material that seals the porous gaps on the floor.
The floor is then ground to the finish that the owner wants. Most of the people go for semi-gloss to a highly reflective surface. There is usually no need for additional flooring material after the application of the polish.
Use of floor coatings
Floor coatings bond to the surface of your lobby to form a shiny protective barrier in that any scratch or impact on the surface wears on the coating and not the concrete floor. This makes this option popular in areas where heavy material passes through the lobbies and areas where corrosive materials are present.
Some of the most common floor coatings are epoxy and polyurethane coatings. The coatings are resistant to staining come in different colors and seal the floor from any leakages from beneath or on top.
Depending on how heavy the traffic in the lobby is, the floor coating can last between eight to fifteen years. The polished concrete can last for over twenty years. The floor is re-polished once the surface starts to deteriorate.
